5 Days from Errachidia to Marrakech via Merzouga Desert, Dades Gorges and Ouarzazate

Leave Errachidia and travel through the spectacular Ziz Valley, one of the most beautiful oasis landscapes in southeastern Morocco. Stop at panoramic viewpoints to admire the extensive palm groves, rocky cliffs and traditional villages. Continue toward Erfoud, known for its fossils and dates, before reaching Rissani, an important historic trading town and gateway to the Sahara. From Rissani, continue toward Merzouga and enjoy your first views of the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes.

In the afternoon, prepare for a camel trek into the golden Sahara. Ride across the dunes while watching the changing colors of the sand as the sun moves toward the horizon. Arrive at your desert camp before sunset, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Erg Chebbi, and watch the sunset from the dunes. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner and local desert music before spending your first night in the Merzouga desert.

Wake early to enjoy the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes before returning to the camp for breakfast. Today is dedicated to discovering the Merzouga desert region and its local culture. Travel by private vehicle around the desert and visit Khamlia village, known for its Gnawa musical traditions. Continue toward the desert plains and discover the lifestyle of communities living around Merzouga. Depending on the season and local conditions, you may visit a seasonal lake or oasis and see the different landscapes surrounding the dunes. You can also meet local nomadic families and learn about their traditional way of life. Continue to Rissani if you wish to experience its traditional market and local atmosphere. Return to Merzouga in the afternoon and enjoy free time near the dunes. Relax at your accommodation, walk through the desert or simply enjoy the peaceful Sahara scenery. Spend your second night in the Merzouga area.

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and travel west through the changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco. Continue toward Rissani and Erfoud before heading to Tinghir and the spectacular Todra Gorges. The dramatic limestone cliffs and narrow canyon create one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the region. Take time to walk through the gorge and enjoy the scenery before continuing toward the Dades Valley. The road passes through traditional villages, palm groves and beautiful mountain landscapes. Arrive in the Dades Gorges area in the afternoon and explore the famous rock formations and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the valley. The Dades region is known for its winding roads, kasbahs and distinctive red rock scenery. After enjoying the landscape, check into your hotel or riad. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying a traditional dinner before your overnight stay in the Dades Gorges.

After breakfast, continue your journey toward Ouarzazate along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Travel through the Valley of Roses, where traditional villages, cultivated fields and mountain landscapes create beautiful scenery. Continue toward Skoura, an oasis famous for its palm groves and historic kasbahs. Take time for photographs and scenic stops before continuing to Ouarzazate, often known as the gateway to the desert and one of Morocco’s best-known film locations. Depending on your schedule, visit the Kasbah of Taourirt or explore the city center. You can also visit the Atlas Film Studios if they are open and included in your itinerary. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Ouarzazate and learn more about the region’s history and film heritage. In the evening, check into your hotel or riad, enjoy dinner and spend your fourth night in Ouarzazate.

After breakfast, leave Ouarzazate and continue toward the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This historic fortified village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most recognizable architectural landmarks in southern Morocco. Walk through its narrow lanes, admire the traditional earthen buildings and enjoy panoramic views from the higher sections of the kasbah. After the visit, continue toward the High Atlas Mountains. Cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and enjoy spectacular mountain views, valleys and traditional Berber villages along the route. Make scenic stops during the journey before descending toward Marrakech. As the landscape changes from the mountains to the plains around Marrakech, your private driver will continue toward the city. Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon or evening and receive a drop-off at your hotel or riad, marking the end of your memorable 5-day journey from Errachidia to Marrakech.
