8 Days from Tangier to Marrakech via Merzouga Desert and Essaouira

Your 8-day Morocco adventure begins in Tangier, where your private driver will meet you at the airport, port or your accommodation. After breakfast, leave Tangier and travel through the beautiful Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen. Known for its blue-painted streets and peaceful mountain setting, Chefchaouen is one of Morocco’s most picturesque destinations. Enjoy time walking through the charming Medina, discovering local shops and taking photographs of the famous blue alleys. After exploring Chefchaouen, continue toward Fes through the northern Moroccan countryside. Arrive in Fes in the afternoon or evening and check into your accommodation. Today you leave Fes and begin your journey toward the Sahara Desert. Travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in Ifrane, a charming mountain town surrounded by forests. Continue toward Azrou and its famous cedar forest before crossing the landscapes around Midelt. After lunch, continue through the Ziz Valley, where spectacular viewpoints offer panoramic views of the palm groves and dramatic rocky scenery. The journey continues toward Erfoud before reaching Merzouga in the afternoon. Once you arrive, begin your camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Ride through the desert while enjoying the changing colors of the sand as the sun begins to set. Arrive at your desert camp, enjoy a traditional dinner and spend the night under the peaceful Sahara sky.

Wake early to enjoy the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, begin a private 4×4 tour around the Merzouga desert area. Discover the different landscapes surrounding the dunes and visit local communities to learn more about desert life and traditions. You may also visit seasonal lakes, panoramic viewpoints and areas where nomadic families live. Continue to Khamlia village, famous for its traditional Gnawa music and cultural heritage. After breakfast, leave Merzouga and travel west through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco. The route passes through Erfoud and continues toward the spectacular Todra Valley. Depending on your schedule, you can stop at the Todra Gorge, famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs and narrow canyon. Continue toward Boumalne Dades and the beautiful Dades Valley. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of rocky mountains, green valleys and traditional villages. The Dades Gorges offer a wonderful contrast to the Sahara dunes you experienced the previous days. Arrive at your accommodation in the Dades Valley in the afternoon or evening. Enjoy a traditional dinner and spend the night surrounded by the impressive landscapes of the gorge.

After breakfast, continue your journey toward Ouarzazate. Travel through the Valley of Roses and the scenic landscapes of the High Atlas region. Arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert, and discover its famous film studios and historic kasbahs. Continue toward Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ancient kasbah and its narrow passages before continuing through the High Atlas Mountains. Cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass and enjoy spectacular mountain views along the road. After breakfast, leave Marrakech and travel toward Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Arrive in Essaouira, a charming coastal city known for its relaxed atmosphere, historic Medina and beautiful ocean views. Spend the day exploring the old Medina, the traditional harbor and the historic city walls. Walk through the colorful streets and discover local artisan workshops, small galleries and seafood restaurants. Enjoy free time to relax by the Atlantic Ocean and experience the unique atmosphere of Essaouira. The city offers a refreshing change after the mountains and desert landscapes of the previous days. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and spend the night in Essaouira.

After breakfast, enjoy some free time in Essaouira before beginning your return journey to Marrakech. Depending on your departure time, you can take another walk through the Medina, visit the harbor or enjoy a final moment along the Atlantic coast. Your private driver will then take you back to Marrakech. The journey offers a comfortable final drive through the Moroccan countryside.
