Your 6 days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour begins with your arrival in Marrakech. Depending on your flight time, our driver will meet you at Marrakech Menara Airport and welcome you to Morocco. After helping you with your luggage, the driver will take you directly to your hotel or riad in Marrakech. This first day is intentionally kept free so you can recover from your journey and enjoy a relaxed beginning to your Moroccan experience. During the transfer, you will have your first opportunity to see the atmosphere of Marrakech, with its busy streets, traditional buildings and palm-lined roads. Once you arrive at your accommodation, you can check in and take some time to rest.

If you arrive early and feel comfortable, you can explore the surrounding area independently or enjoy a traditional Moroccan tea at a nearby café. However, there is no scheduled guided sightseeing on this day. Your Marrakech guided tour is planned for Day 2, when you will have enough time to discover the historic medina with a local guide. The evening remains free for you to relax and enjoy your first Moroccan dinner. Your guide and driver will also explain the schedule for the following days and make sure everything is ready for the desert journey. After breakfast, your local Marrakech guide will meet you at your accommodation for a full guided tour of the Red City. Today is dedicated to discovering the history, architecture and everyday atmosphere of Marrakech before you begin your journey toward the Sahara. You will start in the historic medina, walking through its narrow streets and traditional neighborhoods. Your guide will explain the history of the city and introduce you to the traditions that continue to shape local life. You will see the famous Koutoubia Mosque from the outside and learn about its importance as one of Marrakech’s most recognizable landmarks. The tour continues toward the Bahia Palace, where you can admire traditional Moroccan architecture, decorated ceilings, courtyards and beautiful details.

Afterwards, you will explore the lively souks of the medina. The markets are filled with handmade carpets, leather goods, spices, ceramics, lamps, clothing and traditional Moroccan crafts. Your guide can explain the different artisan areas and help you understand the local products. You will also have time to enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch in the medina. In the afternoon, depending on your interests and opening times, the tour can continue through other historic parts of the city. The pace remains comfortable, allowing you to take photographs and enjoy the atmosphere. After breakfast, you leave Marrakech and begin the scenic journey toward the Sahara. The road climbs through the High Atlas Mountains toward the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, you can stop at panoramic viewpoints to admire mountain villages, valleys and changing landscapes. The route itself is an important part of the experience because the scenery changes dramatically as you move from the Marrakech plain into the mountains and then toward the dry landscapes of southern Morocco. After crossing the High Atlas, we continue toward Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages.

You will have time to walk through the historic ksar, explore its narrow passages and admire the traditional earthen architecture. Your driver or local guide will explain the history of this remarkable site and its importance on the old caravan routes. After the visit, we continue toward Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara. Depending on the schedule, you can enjoy lunch and make a short stop in the city. The journey then continues through the landscapes of Skoura and the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. As we approach the Dades Valley, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with red cliffs, rocky mountains and green oasis areas. In the afternoon, you arrive at your accommodation in the Dades Valley. You can relax and enjoy the views before dinner. Overnight in the Dades Valley.

After breakfast, you leave the Dades Valley and continue toward the spectacular Todra Gorge. The road passes through traditional villages and palm-filled oasis landscapes before reaching the impressive canyon. Todra Gorge is famous for its high limestone cliffs, narrow passages and beautiful mountain scenery. You will have time to walk through part of the gorge, take photographs and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We then continue through Tinghir and follow the road toward Erfoud, a town well known for fossils, dates and traditional stone workshops. You can stop at a local workshop to learn how artisans work with fossil-rich stones and create decorative products. After Erfoud, the landscape gradually becomes more arid.

The road crosses wide desert plains and rocky areas before the first dunes of Erg Chebbi appear in the distance. As you approach Merzouga, the golden Sahara landscape becomes more impressive with every kilometre. In the afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga and prepare for your desert experience. Depending on the camp arrangement, you will begin your camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes. The camel trek is especially beautiful around sunset, when the sand changes color and the shadows stretch across the dunes. At the desert camp, you will enjoy a traditional dinner and Berber music around the fire. The clear desert sky offers a wonderful opportunity to observe the stars. Today is dedicated entirely to the Merzouga desert, giving you more time to discover the region without rushing. We recommend waking early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. The first light creates beautiful colors across the sand and makes the morning especially peaceful. After breakfast, you will begin a 4×4 excursion around the desert. The first stop can be Khamlia, a small village famous for Gnawa music and its cultural traditions. You can meet local musicians and learn about the history of Gnawa culture. The excursion then continues toward areas where nomadic families live. When conditions allow, you can meet a nomadic family and learn about their daily life, traditions and relationship with the desert.

Afterward, the route continues toward Rissani, an important historic town connected to the ancient caravan routes and the Alaouite dynasty. You can explore the traditional market and experience a more local atmosphere away from the main tourist areas. After the visit, you return toward Merzouga through the desert landscapes. The afternoon is free for relaxation. You can rest at your accommodation, walk near the dunes or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Optional activities such as sandboarding can also be arranged. Later, you can enjoy another beautiful sunset over Erg Chebbi before dinner. Having a full day in Merzouga allows you to experience the Sahara beyond the camel ride and gives you time to appreciate the local culture, desert landscapes and traditional way of life. After breakfast, you leave Merzouga and begin the final journey back to Marrakech. The return route crosses the spectacular landscapes of southeastern Morocco and follows the direction of the Draa Valley. As you leave the Sahara, the landscape changes from golden dunes to rocky plateaus, desert villages and palm-filled oases. You pass through areas around Alnif and Tazzarine before reaching the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s most impressive oasis regions. The valley is known for its long palm groves, traditional villages and ancient kasbahs that developed along historic caravan routes. We make suitable stops so you can enjoy the scenery and take photographs.

The journey continues toward Agdz, a traditional town at the entrance to the Draa Valley, before reaching Ouarzazate. Depending on the road conditions and your preferred stops, you may have time for a short break in Ouarzazate before continuing across the High Atlas. The road then climbs toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The mountain scenery provides a final opportunity to enjoy the dramatic landscapes of southern Morocco before descending toward Marrakech. We arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic and stops. Your driver will drop you at your hotel, riad or another agreed location.
